This jazz label was founded in Detroit in 1970 by saxophonist Wendell Harrison and trombonist Phil Ranelin. Although they released only eight albums and a few singles before ceasing activities in 1977, it is popular among rare groove fans as an independent label run by Afro-Americans with a desire to return to Africa based on the civil rights movement. It is also known as one of the three major spiritual jazz labels, alongside STRATA EAST and BLACK JAZZ.
