TOM ZE “Estudando O Samba” CD

A joyous reissue of the 1976 masterpiece by Tom Ze, a true genius and legend of Tropicalia, which Brazil is proud of! This work is also known as the album that got David Byrne hooked on Ton Ze, and is a must-have for rock fans!
Ton Ze is a talented musician who Brazil is proud of, and who can be said to have embodied the spirit of Tropicalismo more than Caetano Veloso or Gilberto Gil. Mr Bongo, a British label, has reissued his 1976 album, one of his best works, for the first time in a long time! As the title "Samba Study" suggests, this album is an attempt to reconstruct samba, but there is no way that Ton Ze would do samba straight. Instead, his innate psychedelia, experimental spirit, and lukewarm singing spirit blend together to create an eternally new and exquisitely "strange" minimal samba pop world. The stimulating comfort of this album, which is like an electric bath, once fascinated David Byrne (Talking Heads), and led to the release of an edited album from Luaka Bop, which led to a reevaluation of Ton Ze in the 1990s and later. As a result, this album was also selected for Rolling Stone magazine's "100 Best Brazilian Albums of All Time" list (2007). Tong Ze's musical style and attitude must have had a significant influence on modern US singer-songwriters such as Devendra Banhart and Mac DeMarco.
