The undisputed king of the blues, B.B. King. His memorable first No. 1 hit on the R&B chart, "3 O'Clock Blues" (1951).It is one of the pieces that triggered B.B.'s breakthrough, and it is an extremely important piece that has remained in the concert repertoire throughout his life.Originally released only as a 10" SP, the song was released as a 7" single, coupled with "That Ain't The Way To Do It" as the original (RPM 339). Originally recorded in 1946 by Lowell Felson, a giant whom B.B. admired, and released in 1948, it was also Felson's first hit song.On the eve of the completion of his innovative modern blues, the young B.B., oozing with influences from Roy Brown and T-Bone Walker, not to mention Felson, is a moving figure. The coupling track, "That Ain't The Way To Do It," is a light boogie number with a rough, Memphis-recorded (Sun Studio) feel.
