Obscure singer Oscar Boyd's debut was likely a 1959 Checker single backed by the Calvaes, a Chicago doo-wop troupe who also released two singles on Cobra. His 1962 Hermes album was also great, and this 7-inch reissue features a single he released that same year on USA Records. The B-side, "She's My Baby," is simply the best. It's a delightful rockin' R&B track with a catchy melody, Boyd's aggressive vocals, and excellent backing vocals. "Twist With Ossie Lee," featuring a female singer (likely Anita, who also released a single on USA Records in 1962 under the name Oscar & Anita), is also excellent, as the title suggests.
