The long-awaited world first LP reissue of the rare mixed martial arts legend "Joe Pass x Jazz Funk"! Intelligent, funky, chic and danceable! Recommended for orthodox jazz guitar fans, as well as acid jazz fans such as Ronnie Jordan and Incognito, and UK soul fans from "Cafe Bleu"! A great album for the dance floor, cafes and bars!
A long-awaited reissue of this rare and interesting album in which jazz guitar virtuoso Joe Pass tackles jazz funk! (1971) This was the first release from the minor California label Gwyn Records, and features a very impressive lineup. It was a historic session that brought together the top musicians of the West Coast at the time, including Paul Humphrey and Earl Palmer on drums, Carol Kaye (label owner) and Ray Brown on bass, and JJ Johnson, Tom Scott, and Conte Candoli on horns. Starting with the cool funk "Better Days," the album is a storm of jazz funk throughout. All of the tracks, such as Joe Sample's "Free Sample," the impressive undulating beat of "Burning Spear," the bass line of "Head Start," and the cheerful boogie shuffle "Gotcha!", are smart funk that is typical of the West Coast, without any muddiness. The jazz bossa "Balloons" and the tearful medium soul "It's Too Late" also have a strong presence. Not only can you fully enjoy Pass's intelligent soul jazz guitar, which hits all the right spots with single tones, but the groovy, funky rhythm section, one of the best on the West Coast, is also a great listen.
