WAKEFIELD “The lost Warthog tapes” CD

★First limited production

An acid blast that shakes the mountains of Colorado! A legendary masterpiece of American psychedelic hard rock, a product of the upheaval of the early 1970s, Wakefield's "The Lost Warthog Tapes" is now available as a new CD reissue!

Formed in 1969 in Pueblo, Colorado. Wakefield, a jam-oriented hard rock band typical of the late hippie movement, gained support in the local scene and performed as the opening act for early Fleetwood Mac (with Peter Green) and backing for Chuck Berry. After touring cities such as Denver and Boulder in Colorado and Seattle, Washington, they recorded at Denver's low-budget Warthog Studios in 1970-71, and the recordings remained unheard for many years, until they were unearthed in 2002 by Colorado reissue label Gear Fab Records.

Starting with a psychedelic rock sound with hard riffs and edgy lead guitars, The Lost Warthog Tapes is a work that unleashes into unknown territory. The opening song "Bring It On" (M1) features a horn section, with congas and sharp guitars, and trumpets, French horns, and flutes are added, evoking the remnants of 1960s psychedelia while moving forward into the chaos of a new era. The long songs of over 8 minutes also enrich their expression. The ups and downs of the songs such as "Water" (M7), which flows like water from the flute intro, "Snowchild" (M8), where the trumpet leads the song, and "Old Man" (M5), which condenses life itself into 11 minutes, are full of ups and downs, and it is understandable that some listeners interpret them as concept albums, based on the deep lyrics depicting loneliness and philanthropy. However, they are not all serious, but also have a sense of humor, which shows their depth. "Let's Get Loaded" (M12) is an obvious drug song, but it does not have the dark side of counter culture, and they sing "Let's get high!" over trumpets, handclaps, and a country-style guitar solo. "Rollin' Down the Highway" (M14) is also a light-hearted groove close to blues pastiche. This style of music, which combines light and dark, also has a totality. The band broke up in 1974, and guitarist Bobby Barth became known on the stage, joining Blackfoot, but Wakefield's name was being forgotten from rock history. But now it's time for the hands of the stopped clock to start moving again.
