Heavy psychedelic thunder roars across Manhattan in 1972!
The original LP is a very rare edition with only 100 copies pressed!
The latest reissue of The Flow's only album, featuring thunderous guitars in the style of Jimi Hendrix and Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath)! The towering skyscraper hard sound is the East Coast's answer to the West Coast's Blue Cheer, and a declaration of war!!
The band was formed in Brooklyn in the late 1960s, centered around guitarist and singer Pete Fine. They started out as a four-piece band called Drunken Dog, but changed their name to the trio The Flow and moved to Manhattan. They performed live around New York, competing with Wicked Lester, the predecessor of Kiss. The only album they released was "The Flow's Greatest Hits." Pete's southpaw guitar, in the vein of Jimi Hendrix and Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), erupts with a heavy sound inspired by the acid movement. The album includes "Swallow the Sun" (M1), with its intro pointing to an ominous fate reminiscent of Sabbath's "Black Sabbath," "Toccata in D Minor" (M5), which is based on Bach, "Bijinx" (M6), which ends with a freaky cheer that is 20 years ahead of grunge, and instrumentals that can be said to be the product of a psychedelic experience.
The album is full of freak-out tunes that reflect the chaos of New York's psychedelic culture, such as the classical "Mousely" (M7), "Sunday Night Thought" (M11) that depicts the futuristic worldview of the time, and "I Saw a Dog" (M12) that imitates the sound of a dog barking with a guitar. On the other hand, the musicianship is also outstanding, with the hook-filled hard rock "Get Up & Smile" (M10), "The Third Movement" (M9) featuring lyrical acoustic guitar, and "Creeping Madness" (M13) with its authentic blues rock style lead.
Only 100 copies of the original LP were pressed, and only a few record stores stocked them, so the music was hardly known. One day, Pete heard Bruckner's Symphony No. 8, and was awakened to classical music, so he left New York and moved to Tucson, Arizona. When he moved, the LPs in his home were destroyed, and The Flow became a "phantom" band. However, "The Flow's Greatest Hits" was reissued in 2003 by the German label Shaddox Music, which specializes in rare psychedelic reissues, and it caused a stir among dilettantes (connoisseurs) around the world. This release is the first new reissue in 20 years, and the first time it has been released in Japan. Pete released the psychedelic orchestra album "On a Day of Crystalline Thought" in 1974. In recent years, in addition to his band activities, he has been creating unique symphonic music with guitar and orchestra.
The Flow's Greatest Hits is a heavy blow that serves as the prologue to such an amazing musical journey.
