Eska "Eska" CD
The 2015 Mercury Prize nomination is a hot topic! Eska, the genius who could be called the next alternative soul queen, is finally making her Japanese debut!
A mysterious voice and an unprecedented sound that blends soul, jazz, classical music, ethnic music, folk, electronica, and acoustic music together - an astonishing talent that makes her the black music version of Joni Mitchell or Kate Bush!
Eska is a black female singer/songwriter from London who was nominated for the Mercury Prize 2015, one of the UK's highest music awards, along with Aphex Twin and Jamie XX, and was suddenly thrown into the limelight. As a singer, she has previously performed with Grace Jones, Tony Allen, Cinematic Orchestra, Matthew Herbert Big Band, and others, but when you listen to this debut album, you will be amazed at the wealth of her talent. Her voice is flexible and travels between the earth and the sky, and her overwhelming mixture of sounds refuses the listener to even judge whether this music is black music or not, and is so original and creative.
Following her debut EP "Gatekeeper" (2013), co-produced with Dave Okumu (The Invisible) and Matthew Herbert, who also produced Jessie Ware, this first full album is co-produced by Eska herself, Dave, Matthew, and Lewis Hackett (Owney Sigoma Band), and is a masterpiece that sublimates her eclectic background into the "Eska sound" in the best way. Her music, which blends Eska's ethnicity of Zimbabwe with the enchanting sound world of Kate Bush, the artistry of Joni Mitchell, and countless other elements, sometimes intoxicates the listener like a utopia, and sometimes confuses the listener like a tribal ritual. It's only a matter of time before the world praises this extraordinary talent.
