Arthur Russell "Iowa Dream" CD
The latest in the archive series from Arthur Russell: Iowa boy, disco mystic, singer-songwriter, composer and intense perfectionist deep in the world of echo!
The latest addition to the Russell Archive series from Arthur Russell's partners Tom Lee and Steve Knutson of Oudica Records, this 19-track album is an astounding collection of Russell's entirely unique songwriting, wrapped in his trademark flair. Some of the tracks were originally recorded as demos, including one for legendary Columbia Records producer John Hammond. Some are recently discovered folk songs written by Russell in the early 1970s, while others are poppy, danceable songs that speak to his involvement with the New York avant-garde and disco scenes. And the long-awaited "You Did It Yourself," previously only heard in a short, heart-stopping black-and-white clip in Matt Wolf's documentary, "Wild Combinations: A Portrait of Arthur Russell," finds the driving funk rhythm and Russell's extraordinary voice at the peak of their powers. "Iowa Dream" hears a country boy discover another world.
