From Dennis Bovell's vast collection of master recordings, the never-before-released gem Sweet Lovers is now available on 7-inch! The shelved cover of "Groovin'" by popular female singer Marie Pierre, who left behind the 1979 UK lovers masterpiece "Love Affair," is finally available on vinyl!
Dennis Bovell is a producer, musician and engineer who is indispensable when talking about British reggae. In 2008, P-Vine compiled a collection of Dennis' master recordings entitled "British Reggae Reborn." These recordings, which were either unreleased or only available on dub plates, have finally been released on vinyl!
The two best tracks are from Marie Pierre, who left behind the album "Love Affair" (released on CD by P-Vine in 1995), a synonymous album of UK lovers rock that is also popular in the free soul context! The A-side is a lovers' cover of the classic "Groovin'" by the Young Rascals, which has been covered by many musicians including Marvin Gaye and Aretha Franklin (great!!) The B-side is an alternate take of the popular album track "Can't Go Through," a version with a strong UK street soul/ground beat flavor that fans will love!
