blues.the-butcher-590213 with JAMES GADSON "Kansas City c/w Linda Lu" 7inch
In Memory of James Gadson
A dream collaboration realized when James Gadson, who visited Japan for the "Drum Magazine Festival 2012," accepted an offer from his former student, Takashi Numazawa! Blues the Butcher, Japan's leading blues band, recorded this in 2012 with legendary drummer James Gadson as a guest (who passed away on April 2nd), and released it the following year, 2013, on their live album "The Sure Shot." From that album, they've single-cut the famous song "Kansas City," which even the Beatles covered, with a theme based on Gadson's hometown, Kansas City. The coupling track, "Linda Lu," is a 1959 hit by R&B singer/guitarist Ray Sharpe, which the Rolling Stones also covered (though unreleased). Gadson handles the lead vocals on both tracks, with the "master and apprentice" twin-drumming of the maestro, who has mastered the essence of Black music, and Takashi Numazawa, delivering supreme grooves within simple blues beats!
