JOE LUTCHER and His Orchestra “Ojai” 7inch
★First press limited edition
Sorry for cheating even though this is billed as a 7" single reissue series! This is a reissue of a 7" SP released by saxophonist/singer Joe Lutcher, the younger brother of famous singer Nellie Lutcher, on Modern Records in 1949. The 7" released in 2011 as part of Jazzman's Jukebox Jam series specializing in blues/R&B has already become quite expensive, so this is a welcome reissue. "Ojai" on side A is an exhilarating R&B instrumental with an exotic, swing, and Latin jazz development. Side B, which was an alternate take of "Ojai" on the Jazzman 7", features "Mardi Gras" with Lutcher himself on vocals, just like the original SP. This is a New Orleans-style song that was also covered by Snooks Eaglin, and is as the name suggests, a very upbeat song.
