Wendell Harrison & Phil Ranelin "Message from the Tribe First Version" CD
★Paper jacket specification
A Message From The Tribe is a masterpiece from the legendary label Tribe, and is famous for having three different versions. The first version is a "cliff jacket", the second version is a "earth jacket", and the third version is a "face jacket", all with different content. This time, we are reissuing the elusive first version "cliff jacket", which has never been reissued or released on CD, and the third version "face jacket", which is the final version of this work! Moreover, the "face jacket" analog version is being reissued as a 2-disc heavyweight record with a higher degree of perfection!
This is where the Tribe legend began! The original version is difficult to obtain, so this CD reveals the entirety of the completely different, previously unknown first version! The first version of "Message From The Tribe" is known to have different recordings and songs compared to the others, as the original is rare, but this time, in order to solve this mystery, it has been completely reissued for the first time in the world. When the Tribe community was first established, their main activity was live performances, but as an extension of that, they performed a musical consisting of music, skits and poetry at the Detroit Institute of Arts. This "Cliff Jacket" is a recording of that on one LP. The track "Where Am I," a representative song by Wendell Harrison, is the premiere of Wendell's signature song, which gradually builds from a free session into a spiritual and pleasant song. "What We Need" is a song by Phil Ranelin, who symbolizes the strength of the message, and is a groovy vocal jazz funk that seductively weaves a message asking what is needed now for freedom and independence. This work was the first departure of the talented musicians of Detroit at the time, who performed free and innovative performances, imbued them with a strong social message, and poured their attitude and passion into changing the times. There is no doubt that this is an important work in the history of Black American music.
