MAMA LION “Preserve Wildlife” CD

★First limited edition★Paper jacket specification

The roar of a female lion that shook the American West Coast in the early 1970s! This heavy blues and psychedelic rock artifact, symbolizing the turbulent times, is reborn in the 21st century!

With Love & Peace's dreams shattered and the Vietnam War drawing to a close, Lynn Carey released her first album, "Preserve Wildlife," in 1972. Lynn Carey's powerful vocals, reminiscent of Janis Joplin and Grace Slick, heralded a new era of rock queens. While Lynn had enjoyed success as an actress in the 1960s, appearing in TV series like "0011Napoleon Solo" and "Wild West," she originally began her career as a singer. She jammed with Jimi Hendrix and Johnny Winter in clubs, and recorded with musical partner Neil Merriweather before forming Mama Lion.

The album's ten tracks are half Lynne and Neil originals, and half rock/soul covers. It features bold, psychedelic, hard-hitting arrangements of well-known songs, including Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine" (M1), The Temptations' "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" (M3), Roy Orbison's "Candyman" (M5), Blind Faith's "Can't Find My Way Home" (M8), and Lynne Anderson's hit "Cry" (M10). With Lynne's star quality, combining vocals and visuals, the band's edgy performance, and unique arranging skills, Mama Lion toured not only in their home country of the United States but also in Europe. "Ain't No Sunshine" was released as a single in Japan alongside the album, raising expectations for global expansion. Another noteworthy feature is the sexy cover art, depicting Lynne nursing a lion cub. The US LP was hidden by a modified jacket because it was deemed too provocative, but the Japanese LP at the time had her breasts exposed. Incidentally, she appeared on the cover and in pictorials for Penthouse magazine around the same time as this album was released, making her a truly talented and beautiful new star.

After this album, Mama Lion released their second album, Give It Everything I've Got (1973), and then disbanded. Lynne began a solo career as a jazz singer, but Mama Lion remains a beloved artist who has been listened to as a cult legend, with a collection of unreleased tracks from that time even being released.
