Swamp Children is a band formed in Manchester in 1980. Unlike A Certain Ratio, which had overlapping members, Swamp Children pursued a direction with strong influences from Latin, Brazilian and jazz music, and quickly established their own identity. Their only album, So Hot, was released by Factory in 1982 and was highly praised by the media. The sound, described as new wave jazz or jazzy new wave, centered around the lustrous voice of the only female vocalist, Anne Quigley, is unique and comfortable. In addition to the five tracks from the two 12-inch singles, the album includes an additional six tracks, including "Flesh," which was contributed to a Crepuscule compilation. Keri Evans, who later joined the Brand New Heavies and has since remixed for Craig David and Mary J. Blige, was also a member of the band.
