Luana Carvalho "Sul/Branco" CD
★ Exclusive release in Japan * Liner notes: Jin Nakahara * Includes translations of the international liner notes by Luana Carvalho and Lennini
Produced by Moreno Veloso! The best alternative samba/MPB album of the modern era, which could be called "post-Adriana Calcanhotto", is born!
The new album by Luana Carvalho, the daughter of the samba superstar Becci Carvalho, is amazing! In her home country, two albums with different concepts, "Sul" and "Branco," were released simultaneously, but in Japan, they are released as a 2-in-1 set! Both albums were produced by Moreno Veloso. The album features an all-star cast of cutting-edge musicians representing modern Brazil, including her friends Domenico and Casim, Pedro Sá, Davi Morais, Ricardo Diás Gomes, and Alberto Continencino. The world of her songs, colored by an acoustic sound full of intellectual playfulness, is completely different from the direction of her mother Becci at first listen, and she exudes a cool and dignified beauty like a successor to Adriana Calcanhotto, but for the final song, "Forca Da Imaginacao," she invites the mother of the samba world, Dona Ivoni Lara, to show her mother's samba spirit. This may be the first masterpiece of this genre since Calcagnot's O Microbio do Samba (The Microbe of Samba).
