Glittering and wild is perhaps the best word to describe the unique world that Lady Frequency creates on Hardcore Gentleness. Born in Ventura, California, Lady Frequency is a singer, multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer. She is an original musician with a flamboyant and unpredictable style. She calls herself an eclectic soul artist. Her music is certainly diverse and refreshing, blending elements of R&B, jazz, funk, neo-soul and alternative. On tracks like "Kaiyote Cries at Night (Ode to Hiatus)" and "Caliber," she isn't afraid to incorporate over-the-top R&B delivery and posturing. The whimsical and dreamy sound of "Hawthorne" and the shimmering synth piano of "Tokyo Rose" are the best ways to appreciate her sense of playfulness. This is an extremely outstanding debut album, with hints of Amy Winehouse lurking throughout.
