GETTO KITTY “Stand Up And Be Counted / Hope For The Future” 7inch
★First press limited edition★Black vinyl★With thin jacket
A miraculous reissue of Weldon Irvin's early recordings! This killer funk album by Weldon, who was also active in Nina Simone's band, and his offshoot GETTO KITTY is being reissued for the first time in the world in the original 7-inch format!
Legendary musician Weldon Irvin, beloved across generations and genres from the jazz and soul scenes of the '70s to the club and rare groove scenes of the '90s and beyond, was also a member of Nina Simone's band and musical director. Now, the only single by GETTO KITTY, the band he formed with her, is finally being reissued in its original 7-inch format! Produced by Nina Simone's partner, Andy Stroud, and released in 1972 on Stroud Records, Nina Simone's private label and a renowned publisher, this single coincides with Weldon Irvin's debut album, "Liberated Brother." This rare recording traces the early days of Weldon Irvin, who went from working with Nina Simone in the late '60s to launching his own label, Nodlew Music, in the early '70s. Of course, the sound is also fantastic, starting with an intro that intertwines and overlaps a thick brass section with mellow electric piano and light percussion, and then the powerful and soulful male-female vocal duo delivers a powerful interplay that quickly builds up to a rare groove of killer funk!
