This masterpiece by a funk-soul band, praised by soul, funk, and even AOR fans for its sophisticated sound and high quality, including superb covers of Stevie Wonder's "You Are The Sunshine Of My Life" and Tower of Power's "Ebony Jam," is revived in a new format! The original record, which had become ultra-premium, is finally reissued on colored vinyl!
Moonpie, an 8-member mixed-race (black and white, male and female) funk-soul band based in Nashville, Tennessee, released their only album in 1977. This rare and essential item for collectors boasts a high-quality sound that impressed soul, funk, and even AOR fans with its diverse arrangements, including the thick funkiness of a three-piece horn section (trumpet, trombone, saxophone), mellow electric piano leads, and sweet chorus work with five band members contributing vocals in addition to the main vocalist. Furthermore, out of 9 tracks, 7 are covers of famous 70s songs that were popular at the time, featuring killer tracks like Tower of Power (M1), Steely Dan (M4), Commodores (M5), Eddie Harris (M6), Brothers Johnson (M7), and Creative Source (M8), which reproduces Earth, Wind & Fire's arrangement. Among these, the exquisite arrangement of Stevie Wonder (M3), which transitions from a slow bossa nova to an elegant samba-style solo in the middle, is sure to be an instant classic! [1977 work]
