Singer/guitarist Eddie C. Campbell is rightly one of the "Chicago West Side School", following in the footsteps of Otis Rush, Magic Sam and Buddy Guy. He played with Muddy Waters at the tender age of 12, and has performed with Little Walter, Howlin' Wolf, Little Johnny Taylor, Jimmy Reed, Coco Taylor, Magic Sam and many others, with Magic Sam, who he says was his neighbour, being a major influence. Campbell's late debut album was released in 1977 on critic/producer Steve Wisner's Mr Blues label. Backed by a strong sound from the skilled members of Carrie Bell (hca), Lafayette Leake (p), Bob Stroger (b) and Clifton James (ds), the band sings smoky, lively songs and plays inventive, revved-up guitar, driven by a purple jazzmaster. This is Campbell's masterpiece, a hidden gem of Chicago blues from this era, and the rare 'King of the Jungle' original vinyl artwork is also a masterpiece, reissued for the first time on LP with a huge impact
