The world's first reissue of Jackie Ross's 1980 album of extremely rare modern soul, following his collaboration with Southside Movement, another funk band also associated with Chicago!
Jackie Ross (born in St Louis), a female Chicago singer who was recruited by that Sam Cooke and made her debut on his SAR Records in 1962, and later sang in Syl Johnston's band. She was signed to the prestigious Chess label in 1964, where she unleashed the smash hit 'Selfish One', and has since gone on to work for Brunswick and others. The album was produced by the talented local producer James Van Lear and released on his Golden Ears Records label in 1980.
It features the supremely comfortable modern-crossover soul 'The World Needs More People Like You', the groovy upbeat 'I Who Have Nothing' and a cover of the O'Jays' 'You Got Your Hooks In Me', and A cover of the Stylistics' famous 'Betcha By Golly Wow' (which turns out to have the exact same backing track as cover by Lovin' Lights of the same Chicago !) and more, from up to slow! A great album for both royal soul fans and rare groove enthusiasts.
