"Built In System Live In New York" is the first ever record to feature Taiwanese vibraphonist Chien Chien Lu's lively performance at Hunter College in NYC, the home of jazz and where he is based.
"Built In System Live In New York" is a work of art based on the debut performance of eight original songs composed by Chien Chien Lu, a rising star in the vibraphone world originally from Taiwan and currently active at the forefront of jazz in New York City.
This work is composed of three major themes: "destiny," "relocation," and "cultural inheritance," and Chien Chien Lu collectively calls these three themes "Built In System."
The opening track, "Boulanger's Variation," centers around complex rhythms and the mysterious vibraphone played by Chien Chien Lu, and features the trumpet of Jeremy Pelt, famous for producing André 3000's instrumental album, and the layered grooves of Richie Goods, a bassist well known for his collaborative albums with Chien Chein.
Songs such as "Hsiu Chin," with its frenzied alternating roars of vibraphone and trumpet, and the dreamy, calming "Träumerei" are performed with an introduction, development, twist and conclusion.
"Special Things," which has a more retro feel, will make you feel like you've been transported to a jazz club from the 70s or 80s, while the final track, "Full Moonlight," is a modern jazz album that combines power and comfort, unique to a live recording, and it's a luxury to be able to experience this live performance with all new songs.
