Powerful yet moody. Rudolph Johnson, who plays tenor sax with a wonderful sense of balance, released his first album as a leader in 1971!
A diverse album that includes everything from spiritual sounds to jazz funk and bossa nova-style songs!
Rudolph Johnson, a tenor sax player from Columbus, Ohio, releases his first album as a leader, Spring Rain. Produced by Gene Russell, one of the founders of Black Jazz Records, and featuring Ray Pounds, a drummer who also participated in La Toya Jackson's work in the 1980s, this album is made by a luxurious lineup of members. The album opens with the heavy and aggressive Rudolph's tenor on Silvia Ann, followed by the moody, mellow Fonda, which lures you into another world for about seven minutes, and Diswa, which features a high-tension saxophone and a delightful piano. The first half of the album is already packed with volume! The second half features the bossa nova-style relaxation of Little Daphne, and the title track Spring Rain at the end, making for a total of seven luxurious songs!
