In other words, this is the ultimate.
Following Roy Brooks, Deep Jazz Reality presents the "legendary realm" of the rare groove world - the whole picture is finally here. The wild days of his hometown Texas, when "Hannibal" was not yet "Hannibal". The groove feast that unfolded there is revived beyond 40 years!

★Hannibal Marvin Peterson is a legendary trumpeter who swept the world jazz scene in the 70s with his aggressive high notes. This live album is the only work by The Soul Masters, a group he led while studying at North Texas State University in his hometown in the late 60s, before he called himself Hannibal. This combo of nine people also included Eugene Carrier (organ), who would later join the BB King band, and Emry Thomas (ds), who would later join Johnny Guitar Watson's band.

★This live album is truly a showcase that transcends the boundaries of jazz, soul, and funk. Highlights include "Summertime," in which Peterson sings using his high range, and the soul ballad "Five Foot Even," which shows off his vocal prowess. However, there are three tracks that will make rare groove fans go wild, burst with laughter, and die of agony. "Groove for Otis," whose title alone sounds crazy, is a crunchy jazz funk with a killer, edgy beat, while "Our Groove" is a stormy organ funk that is reminiscent of Grant Green from the same period. And the final track, "I Can't Stand It," is short but intense. It's a funky JB cover funk anthem that takes on the same world as the famous "Funky 16 Corners"!
