A Message From The Tribe is a masterpiece from the legendary label Tribe, and is famous for having three different versions. The first version has a "cliff jacket", the second version has a "earth jacket", and the third version has a "face jacket", all with different content. This time, we are re-releasing the phantom first version "cliff jacket", which has never been reissued or released on CD, and the final third version "face jacket"!

This is the complete version, which is a step up from the 2nd version, which was released with different songs and takes, and which has been perfected with even more attention to detail, including changes to the sound balance and effect processing! The most well-known version of "A Message From The Tribe" is the "Earth Jacket," but in fact this 3rd version "Face Jacket" is the final version of this series. First of all, in the 1st version "Cliff Jacket," the A-side was written by Wendell Harrison and the B-side was written by Phil Ranelin, but from the 2nd version onwards, the order was reversed, the takes were changed, and all of Wendell's songs were replaced with other songs. This work was released with a major change in mix from the 2nd version, and attention was paid to the mastering and cutting. The difference in sound is so clear that it sounds like a different song when compared to the 2nd version. In particular, the funkiness of "What We Need" has been significantly improved in the kick and bass sound pressure and vocal contours, and the rare groove level has been changed to 200%, and it has become a sound image that can be used in clubs today. Other tracks include "How Do We End All Of This Madness," which features a pitch-black groove created by repeated wooden bass phrases and Rhodes tones, and "Beneficent," a fast-paced jazz funk that is typical of Wendell Harrison, with its impressive chopped hi-hat and wildly hitting snare drums. These tracks are unique to Tribe, and feature a unique funk + free jazz feel. This reissue is a faithful reproduction of the original recordings.
