Genre-defying songwriter, vocalist and activist MOONGA K. has officially announced his third studio album, SOULWAVE 2153, set for release on August 14, 2026 via the legendary independent Japanese record label, P-Vine Records. The announcement
arrives alongside the project’s first single, “TIME TRAVELLIN’ LOVER,” produced by burgeoning producer Ryan Marshall, with additional production from Matthew Garton, and releasing on June 17.

Incorporating funk, psychedelia, soul, pop, reggae, Zamrock, electronica, disco, classical music, and a wide spectrum of African musical influences, SOULWAVE 2153 unfolds as an afrofuturist transmission from the year 2153. The album imagines a time-traveling funk broadcast sent back to the 1970s and mysteriously intercepted in present-day Africa — carrying encoded memories of culture, identity, resistance, love and liberation. As the story progresses, the groove itself becomes transformative: awakening listeners to their collective power as timelines collapse and the past and future merge through rhythm. By the end of the project, funk becomes a form of time travel and survival. At the heart of SOULWAVE 2153 lies the central question: “What if the future remembered us through the joy of groove?”

Through vivid, emotionally expansive songwriting and immersive production helmed by MOONGA K. alongside co-producers Ryan Marshall and Matthew Garton, the album seeks to offer listeners a sense of joy, release, and hope during increasingly uncertain times. Accompanied by afrofuturist visuals throughout its rollout, the project draws inspiration from boundary-pushing artists such as Stevie Wonder, Janelle Monáe, Sun Ra, and Funkadelic, further cementing MOONGA K.’s reputation as one of the most forward-thinking voices in alternative African music.

With over 10 million streams globally and acclaim from publications including AFROPUNK, Rolling Stone, Wonderland, GQ, and Nataal, the 29-year-old artist now sets his sights on bringing SOULWAVE 2153 to audiences worldwide through an international tour celebrating groove of funk music, futurism, and radical joy.
