"Watarase" is a masterpiece by jazz pianist Fumio Itabashi, an important piece that sparked the current global Japanese jazz boom. The new release, following the first release "Watarase ~ECHO~", which was well received and covered the best of "Watarase", is "Watarase ~VOICE~", a compilation of songs that various vocalists participated in "Watarase"!
Now that Watarase has become "the world's Watarase," the sound of the river's waters is vibrant. In order to collect and bring together these "voices," we have created the second volume, "VOICE." The focus is on the "vocal version" of Watarase, with a focus on unreleased songs. It includes a version by Kaneko Yuki that is imbued with a Japanese spirit, Lee Masami, who has Asian blood running through her, a performance by Maruyama Shigeo (lyricist), and treasured recordings that introduce exotic voicings. In addition, the long-awaited complete version (planned) of the masterpiece "Symphonic Poem 'Watarase,'" which became the source of "the world's Watarase," will finally be unveiled! -- Wakasugi Minoru
The second release, "Watarase ~VOICE~", will be released following the well-received "Watarase ~ECHO~", which compiles unknown takes of the masterpiece "Watarase" by jazz pianist Fumio Itabashi, who is now in the limelight from jazz fans all over the world, from the perspective of pioneer of the Japanese jazz scene Minoru Wakasugi! This work compiles songs that focus on "voice", mainly unreleased songs in which a wide variety of vocalists participated in "Watarase". It is scheduled to include songs on Watarase with the participation of jazz vocalist Shigeo Maruyama, Korean folk song/folk song singer Lee Jung Mi, and folk song singer Yuki Kaneko. This series looks back on 40 years of history and records carefully selected "Watarase" that should be listened to now, and you can enjoy a piece of the life of Fumio Itabashi, who continues to express the pinnacle of the art of jazz with all his might.
