Matthew Halsall "Togetherness - The Best of Matthew Halsall" CD
★ Exclusively released on CD in Japan
Founder of Gondwana Records, which has had a huge influence on the UK jazz scene since the 2000s, and trumpet player/composer/producer Matthew Halsall, who is leading modern spiritual jazz to new horizons, has announced the release of a best album exclusively for Japan to commemorate his long-awaited first visit to Japan! The album includes selected songs from his career spanning more than a decade with Gondwana, from his latest album "An Ever Changing View" (2023), which has been highly acclaimed not only in his home country of the UK but also in Japan, to his early masterpiece "Colour Yes" (2009)! In addition, "Bright Sparkling Light" from the 12-inch that was sold exclusively at last year's tour venue and immediately sold out and was re-pressed is also included!
Orange like the dawn sky
Turquoise rain falls from time to time
The slow-moving scenery and vibrations of a local train
Monochrome piano and soft, swaying curtains
Morning sun shining through the skylight
Footprints left on a winter beach
Endless misty plains
A mahogany living room with the aroma of coffee
When I heard this piece, the following scene came to mind.
Very gentle and warm tone.
A romantic, cinematic melody.
Please give Matthew's music a listen.

I have been hosting my radio show "TOKYO MOON" for 14 years now, and the name Matthew Halsall has become familiar to listeners.
Every time he releases a new album, he shares his beautiful and delicate world of sound with his listeners. His sound, which is jazz but also has the essence of minimalism and folk, is tranquil yet resonates deep in the heart, as if it simultaneously contains the comfort and strength brought by the moon floating in the night sky. It also evokes a faint sense of déjà vu, as if one is encountering a familiar landscape again. And now, when I heard the news that his band would be setting foot on Japanese soil for the first time and performing live, a feeling of heartfelt congratulations welled up in my heart, along with deep emotion.

I think it was two or three years ago that I first heard Matthew Halsall's music. I was immediately captivated by the gentle groove of the ensemble, which was not centered on the trumpet even though he was a trumpet player, and the very fresh sound of the song itself, which left a lasting impression. I particularly fell in love with "An Ever Changing View," which came out in 2023, and after listening to it over and over again, it ended up becoming my best album of the year. Matthew's band will be performing at the festival Live Magic, which I supervise, and this time a best album selected by Matthew himself will be released exclusively in Japan. I hope that his spiritual jazz will resonate with even more people in this way!
