DarWin appeared on the scene in 2018. While his profile is shrouded in mystery, his debut album "Origin of the Species" has gained support from a wide range of listeners, going beyond the boundaries of progressive metal, with its rich melodies, dramatic development, outstanding musicianship, and grandiose cosmic view. In addition, the participation of Simon Phillips, a drummer known for his work with Jeff Beck, Michael Schenker, TOTO, and others, as a co-producer as well as a performer, attracted a lot of attention. DarWin has since collaborated with talented players such as Billy Sheehan (Mr.BIG), Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater), and Guthrie Govan (Aristocrats), and will release his new album "Five Steps On The Sun" in 2024. DarWin has previously depicted global concepts such as human evolution and climate change, but in this work he will fly out of the atmosphere. "One Step On The Sun," "Five Steps On The Sun," and "The Sun" are masterpieces in suite form that strengthen the instrumental parts and write epic poems on a solar system scale.
In response to this concept, this album brings together a group of talented musicians. Simon Phillips and Greg Howe, a super technical guitarist who debuted on the Shrapnel label and backed up Michael Jackson, have been regular participants since the first album. The album also features super bassist Mohini Dey, who accompanied B'z on tour and will be coming to Japan as a solo artist in August. In addition, Derek Sherinian, Andy Timmons, Julian Pollack (J3PO) and others play, and they engage in a breathtaking hybrid technical battle that goes beyond metal, progressive and fusion. Matt Bissonette, who played bass in Dave Lee Roth and Ringo Starr's bands, participates as a vocalist, and his voice, which combines power and clarity, expands the range of the soundscape. The basic tracks of this album were recorded in a live format at Powerplay Studios in Maul, Switzerland, with DW, Simon and Mohini gathering together. They have succeeded in obtaining a more raw feeling.
