Bernie Worrell with Khu.eex' "Tales from The Mother Earth Ship" CD
★Music selection and supervision: Yoriko Kawachi
★Japan exclusive edition
Bernie Worrell, the master of P-Funk's heyday, has compiled a huge collection of his posthumous recordings, selected by leading P-Funk researcher Yoriko Kawachi, on a special edition available only in Japan! Bernie's passion and concentration are so intense that even illness cannot stop him from grooving through the entire album, creating a soulful funk sound. Super drummer Stanton Moore (Galactic) also participates!
This is a compilation of 14 tracks selected by Yoriko Kawachi from the four albums recorded by Bernie Worrell, who passed away on June 24, 2016, with Khu.eex', the band he played with in his later years, three months before his death. The core members are of Native American descent and live in Washington state, USA. Bernie, who is of Cherokee Indian descent, wanted to work with them, so he moved to Washington state in 2015 despite his illness. I heard that he took frequent breaks during the recording, but once Bernie concentrates, even his illness cannot get in the way. This album is full of Bernie's unique playing, which goes from classical to nursery rhymes to funk. Bernie invited Stanton Moore, the drummer of Galactic, who played with him in Rio Nocentelli's Meters Experience, to record, and Stanton also participates in seven tracks on this album. He also plays wonderful drums that perfectly match Bernie's playing. This is a must-listen, killer album for P-Funk fans too.
