the innocence mission "See You Tomorrow" CD
Singer-songwriter Karen Peris's songs, which gently soak into the heart, her breathtakingly beautiful singing voice, and simple yet exquisite backing... A new masterpiece by Innocence Mission that promises a blissful moment.
Love. Connection. Community. Understanding. Most of us experience these aspects through the prism of family and friends. But not everyone is able to translate those feelings into song, especially not with the beauty and sensitivity of Innocence Mission, the Pennsylvania trio fronted by Karen Peris and her husband Don. Following on from their previous album, Sun on the Square (2018), they've crafted another absolutely stunning and moving album, See You Tomorrow, full of awe and wonder, yearning, sadness and joy, with a rich array of songs that seek to capture the essence of what makes us human.
The band recorded See You Tomorrow in the basement (and dining room, where the piano is kept) of the Perris family home. Karen wrote and sang 10 of the album's 11 tracks and plays guitar, piano, foot organ, accordion, electric bass, melodica, Mellotron, and an old prototype string sampler keyboard. Don provides guitar, drums, vocal harmonies, and lead vocals on his own song, "Mary Margaret In Mid-Air." Fellow and founding member Mike Bitz adds upright bass on four tracks, including the album's first single, "On Your Side."
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of the 1999 masterpiece 4th album "Birds of My Neighborhood", a re-recording of the classic song "The Lakes of Canada" from the album, which was released digitally only in August 2019, is included as a bonus track. The song was described as "perfect" by Sufjan Stevens, who also covered it.
