Tono "Aquario" CD
*Commentary: Nakahara Jin *Artist introduction by Arto Lindsay / Includes translation
Produced by Arto Lindsay! An important Brazilian experimental pop work with a neo-tropicalia mood!
A stimulating encounter between brilliant, cutting-edge arrangements and Brazilian tradition - a highly praised but difficult-to-obtain masterpiece from 2013 is now back! Gilberto Gil also participates! Tono is an experimental pop/post-rock band from Rio consisting of Ana Claudia Lomellino (the only female member), Ben Gil (Gilberto Gil's son), Rafael Rocha, Bruno de Roulo, and Eduardo Manzo. Since their debut in 2009, they have been highly praised and garnered attention as an up-and-coming band producing the most stimulating sound in the Rio indie scene, and in 2013 they released their masterpiece third album, "Aquario." The experimental sound, which is stimulating yet cool and floating, using guitars, keyboards, and electronics, is accompanied by Ana and Rafael's human-like vocals... The sound, which is abstract yet has an organic warmth, is completely unique, and the cover of Jobim's famous song "Chora Coracao" is shocking. "Da Bahia", featuring Gilberto Gil, a great pioneer who has practiced the fusion of Brazilian tradition and innovation, is also wonderful. The album was produced by the genius Arto Lindsay, whose new album "Cuidado Madame", his first in 13 years, is attracting a lot of attention. This is a must-listen album that is the perfect combination of Arto, who has continued to create his own cosmopolitan sound while connecting NY and Rio/Bahia, and the band's aesthetic, which could be called neo-tropicalism.
