GLORIA BARNES "Uptown" CD
★Limited edition first pressing★Japan-exclusive paper jacket
Incredibly raw and pure soul from 1971! The only album by New York female singer Gloria Burns on Maple, known for her releases of Lee Moses, is now available on CD in a paper jacket exclusive to Japan!
Gloria Burns is a female singer born in Harlem, New York. She released singles under the name Towanda Burns on Groovy and A&M, and in 1971 released her only album, Uptown, on Maple, an obscure label distributed by All Platinum, a label said to be from Canada or New York. Most of the songs on the album were produced by Johnny Brantley, a New York producer known for his work with Bobby Robinson, and were fully backed by the Ohio Players and Lee Moses & the Disciples. In addition to the funky dance tracks "I'll Call You Back," "Gotta Get Away," and "You Don't Mean It," the deep ballads are also excellent. Considering its rarity (current market price is around 150,000 yen), it feels like a female version of Lee Moses' album on the same label. A rare groove masterpiece that is highly recommended for deep soul fans.
