ONDATROPICA “Baile Bucanero” CD
This dream project, which can be called the Quantic version of Buena Vista Social Club, is back!
Ondatropica is a major project of "tradition and innovation" that brings together legendary veteran musicians from the Colombian music world and the young talents of Quantic and others. The highly anticipated second album, released five years after the first album, which was acclaimed worldwide, is now complete! This is the most important album on the world music scene in 2017!
◆A big project that is the culmination of Quantic's research into Latin America!
Ondatropica, the big project masterminded by the genius Quantic (aka Will Holland) and Mario Galeano (Fuente Cumbiero) that set a shining milestone in the history of Colombian music, is back after a five-year hiatus! Alfredo Linares (p) and Michi Sarmiento (sax), among other legendary masters of Colombian music active in the 60s and 70s, came together under Quantic to revive the rich sound of the golden age with a modern feel in their splendid debut album, Ondatropica (2012). It was a groundbreaking work that could truly be called the "Colombian version of Buena Vista Social Club." Since the release of this album, which received worldwide acclaim, Quantic has continued to release albums under a variety of names and concepts, including as a solo artist, The Western Transient, and Flowering Inferno, but in 2017 he has finally returned to this project, which can be considered the culmination of his exploration of Latin music!
◆The first new album in five years is an evolved work that reflects the diversity of Colombian music!
The long-awaited second album "Baile Bucanero" was recorded in two locations, Bogota, the capital of Colombia, and the island of Providencia in the Caribbean Sea, and was completed after long sessions with a total of 35 musicians! The Bogota session captured the cutting-edge, underground DIY spirit unique to big cities, while the Providencia session captured the Colombian identity, from indigenous folklore to dancehall reggae. Providencia was originally governed by the UK, and has recently become Colombian territory, so it has cultivated an environment that symbolizes Caribbean culture, with a mixture of African, British, and Spanish influences. The sound of this album, which wanted to express the diversity and commonality of the two, is much more varied than the previous album, which focused on cumbia and Latin jazz, and the change can be enjoyed in the excellent lead song "Hummingbird", which has a strong Afro color. This work, which shows a greater sense of unity between Quantic's high-sense and hybrid sound making and the rich groove of famous veteran musicians, is an undoubted evolutionary work that further develops the results of the previous work, and is another masterpiece that can be said to be a new monument of Colombian music! Also noteworthy is the artwork/video directed by the charismatic street culture photographer B+.
