This is the fourth album by Doug Kahn, the label's leading artist, on Black Jazz! This was effectively the last release on Black Jazz Records, and a fitting end to the label!
This is the fourth album by Doug Carn, the keyboardist who produced the most works in the short history of the Black Jazz Records label, and the last release by Black Jazz Records, which sadly marked the end of the label. It is also the first album since he said goodbye to Gene Carn, with whom he had worked together on three albums, and perhaps to ease the sadness, a total of 11 musicians were brought together, each of whom skillfully demonstrated their incredible playing. The producer is, of course, Gene Russell, the leader of Black Jazz Records. The album kicks off with the grand Latin jazz "Chant" where soulful male and female vocals intertwine, followed by the jazz-funk dance tune "Higher Ground" that instantly warps you to a 70's jazz club, and a cover of Earth, Wind & Fire's "Mighty Mighty", a series of joyful and soulful songs that show no trace of Gene Carn's loopholes, making this the most euphoric album in the history of Black Jazz Records. This is a masterpiece that ended the label's story in the best way possible, and a masterpiece that should be passed down forever as a monument of spiritual jazz!
