CHESTER THOMPSON “Powerhouse” CD
★2020 latest remaster edition★ Both CD and LP are imported and available for domestic distribution
This is the only album by Chester Thompson, a West Coast organist who was a member of Tower Of Power for about 10 years during their heyday. This is the first vinyl reissue since the original release in 1971!
Bay Area organist Chester Thompson, who was also a member of Tower Of Power and Santana, left his first and last leader album. It is a gorgeous work with Rudolph Johnson, a saxophonist familiar to Black Jazz Records fans, on tenor sax, Al Hall, who also participated in Eddie Harris' records, on trombone, and Raymond Pounds, who has played behind Pharoah Sanders and Stevie Wonder, on drums! Although it is a short work with only 4 songs in total, the opening "Mr. T" with its aggressive wind instruments and Chester's skillful organ will leave you in the ears, M2 "Trip One" with Rudolph Johnson's saxophone raging over a moody performance, as well as M3 "Weird Harold" to M4 "Power House" on the B side of the record, which are played one after the other with jazz funk tunes that have a thick groove, will be irresistible for those who like edgy jazz!
