SCREAMIN' JAY HAWKINS "Night and Day - The Planet Sessions" CD
This is the first official reissue of the rarest album by R&B eccentric Screamin' Jay Hawkins, featuring additional unreleased songs!
Screamin' Jay Hawkins is one of the most eccentric R&B artists. It's been a long time since his signature song "I Put a Spell On You" (1956) was featured in Jim Jarmusch's film "Stranger Than Paradise" (1984), and he suddenly became a global figure. Of the three LPs he released between the 1950s and 1969, when he was actively recording, the rarest and most bizarre is his second album, "The Night and Day of Screamin' Jay Hawkins." Recorded in London in 1965 with UK session musicians and released the following year on Shel Talmy's (The Kinks, The Who, etc.) Planet label, this album is now considered a classic of mod jazz with its fascinating blend of lounge-style ballads, frantic R&B, and cool club grooves. This is the first official reissue of this album, which includes additional unreleased songs/takes and stereo mixes. Now is the time to pay attention to the bizarre genius Screamin' Jay Hawkins!
