VA "Classic Blues Artwork from the 1920's" Calendar + CD

7255433-22227
Format: Calendar + CD
Price: 3,500 yen + tax Release date: December 9, 2020

◆The traditional CD-included blues calendar, familiar to blues fans, is back again this year! This calendar was started by world-renowned blues collector John Tefteller after he acquired the original Paramount advertising plates. Not only does it have an excellent design featuring LP-sized advertisements and rare promotional photos from the 1920s, but it also has a unique design that includes the birth and death dates of bluesmen, and this series is now in its 18th year, which has been supported by blues enthusiasts around the world!
◆The PBS/BBC documentary series "American Epic" was produced with the full cooperation of John Tefteller, the world's leading blues collector and owner of Blues Images! As with last year's calendar, the "American Epic" production team combined playback equipment used in studios in the 1920s with highly specialized cutting-edge technology to create a revolutionary 78 rpm digital restoration technique. The CD included with this edition also has a fantastic sound that is so immersive it feels like the music is being played right in front of you!
◆This CD supplement has been a big hit with hardcore blues fans every year, but the highlight this time is a completely unreleased recording by postwar blues piano man Lost John Hunter. This is the first ever blues session (with Sam Phillips, of course) held at Memphis Recording Service, the predecessor of SUN Studio, and contains 11 tracks recorded in early 1950, the same year as the release of his only album, "Cool Down Mamma," released by 4 Star Records. This elusive recording is revived with amazing sound quality!
